Telstra to Compensate 42,000 NBN customers.
It has emerged today with a story by The Age, that the Telstra will be refunding, compensating, cancelling or changing plans of customers on higher tier NBN connections if connected via Fibre to the Nod (FFTN) or Fibre to the Basement (FTTB). The NBN offer 4 download speed plans to consumers, being 12/1, 25/5, 40/20 and 100/50. Typically a FTTN connection cannot guarantee speeds any higher than 25/5 (or the second tier plan.) It is for this reason the ACCC have stepped in to ensure consumers are not being overcharged.
As Ballan is a FTTN area, we would like to encourage NBN users in the area to check their plan speeds to ensure you’re not one of the 42,000 currently being overcharged by as much as $30 per month. Your NBN plan is normal if you are on a 25/5 or 12/1 plan. If you’re on a 50/20 or 100/40 plan you should consider seeking compensation and reducing your speed.
Unrelated to the compensation announced today, we’ve had numerous complaints about the NBN in Ballan being slow or unreliable. There doesn’t seem to be a pattern as to which supplier specifically but what we can tell you is that all providers seem to be struggling. A lot of this is due to the amount of work in the area on the lines during the rollout phase. We expect less problems & complaints after the January cut off.
